The Lahinch Coast Hotel is delighted to once again be hosting many of the cast and production crew for RTE’s hit-drama Smother, now filming season 3. Co-owners John and Bríd O’Meara say that filming in the area “has a positive impact on the Lahinch Coast Hotel, but also provides a boost for the wider community and businesses”.

John and Bríd O’Meara say they had a busy winter behind the scenes as they continued with the upgrades to the four-star Hotel including further bedroom refurbishments. The recent upgrades are being put to good use, as in addition to accommodating much of the production crew, the Lahinch Coast Hotel is also serving as the location for various scenes.

The O’Meara’s praised the hard-working cast and crew for working their talents through Covid obstacles and lockdowns.

“It is a credit to Robert Walpole and Rebecca Flanagan from Treasure Entertainment for their commitment despite the setbacks and obstacles since Smother season 1 began filming just prior to Covid. The County of Clare has reaped the benefits as the producers have been very mindful of using local suppliers and hiring extras from the community.”

The backdrop of coastal Co. Clare was no doubt a major draw for Treasure Entertainment with the county’s unique landscapes and diverse locations at close distances. John and Bríd feel the biggest benefit is how the filming showcases the stunning coast of Co. Clare. The local landscape plays a critical role in the drama for the Ahearn family and director Daithí Keane is certainly showcasing the wonderful gems on Co. Clare’s coastline.
