The Maryborough Hotel & Spa, a 4-star luxury family run hotel, is celebrating 25 years. To this day The Maryborough strives to combine the hotel's history with luxurious accommodations.
The History
The story began in 1710 when Richard Newenham built the original Georgian manor on Maryborough hill in Douglas, south of Cork's historic city centre. The O’Sullivan’s acquired the 18 acres and the then dilapidated manor from the Newenhams in the 1990s.
The Maryborough Hotel was opened by Dan O'Sullivan and his family in 1997, and Dan O' Sullivan is still the Managing Director, with his son Daniel recently joining operations. From the beginning Dan’s vision for the property was to blend the old and the new and, as a result, the Mansion House has kept its original architecture. The entrance hall and some mantelpieces at The Maryborough retain Adam-style décor, adding to the luxury and decadence of this one-of-a-kind boutique hotel's manor house.
John Newenham, the last Newenham to own The Maryborough, was an avid gardener and tree collector. Because of his inspired work, The Maryborough's gardens still house a collection of rhododendrons, making it one of the best landscaped hotels in Cork.
The Hotel Today
The Maryborough strives to combine the hotel's history with luxurious accommodations. Several suites were built on the upper floors of the Mansion House to incorporate its elegance into the hotel. The hotel's modern contemporary extension complements the old house's opulence with luxurious Deluxe, Executive, and Family Rooms offering the best service and facilities for leisure or corporate guests, luxury weddings, and business conferences.
Maryborough's 2AA The Rosette Bellini's Restaurant serves fine dining, while the Bellini's Cafe Bar serves gourmet food and delicious cocktails. In fine weather, guests can dine al fresco on the Garden Terrace. Afternoon Tea is served in the Manor House Drawing Room, which still has many original Georgian features and has become a homage to that era – making it popular with fans of Downtown Abbey.
The Maryborough's ESPA Spa makes it one of Cork's best spa hotels. ESPA provides unparalleled spa and wellness experiences to both hotel residents and visitors. The Maryborough Health Club has recently been through a €500,000 renovation which includes Technogym state of the art gym equipment and is open to both hotel guests and members, and has year-round swimming pool, which is ideal for the Irish winter.
The Maryborough's most recent addition is the idyllic Orangery, which, together with the decadent Sherrard Ballroom, spoils brides and grooms with the old and the new. Couples frequently choose an intimate ceremony in the Orangery, followed by a cocktail reception in our 300-year-old gardens and a sit-down meal in the modern Ballroom.
The Maryborough are celebrating their 25th anniversary by offering 25% off all rooms from January to April 2022 with further information on special anniversary offers available here.
