Environmental Impact Team leads Green Agenda at Clayton Hotel Cardiff Lane
Cross-department collaboration to implement positive changes across the property’s operations
 Tues 25th April 2023

At Clayton Hotel Cardiff Lane we have partnered with Green Tourism, a hospitality specialist environment accreditation partner, to ensure the principles of Sustainable Development are embedded in our service offering and daily work practices. Green Tourism has conducted “Energy & Sustainability Audits” to help us prioritize the areas where we need to act.

In tandem with this external partner, we have formed an internal “Environment Impact Team”, made up of team members from across the various hotel departments. The team have a passionate desire to lead the implementation of a greener agenda at the hotel level.

To-date the following initiatives have been put in place by the Environmental Impact Team:

  1. We are currently in the process of creating a wildflower garden on the grounds of our hotel. Although a small space, this will do the world of good in helping to attract and nourish wildlife such as birds, bees, butterflies, and beneficial insects. We believe that this is such an effective method of working for nature especially in an urban area.
  2. We have ensured taps in all bathroom facilities in the hotel are of low pressure, guaranteeing sufficient water is released from the tap to use appropriately but at a rate that is not wasteful. This is one of the many changes we have made in the hotel to save water.
  3. Recent upgrades to our CHP unit have helped to reduced our reliance on the electrical grid, whilst also providing an economical heating source for the water used throughout our hotel. This form of energy conversion results in lower greenhouse gas emissions per unit of energy generated.
  4. Reducing the supply of single-use items such as disposable cutlery, plastic straws, plastic pens in meeting rooms, and many more.
  5. Substituting traditional print marketing with digital marketing in every way possible.
  6. Introducing further waste segregation systems throughout the hotel. This ensures waste is correctly segregated so certain items such as food can be converted into renewable energy for our planet.
  7. The fitting of motion sensor lights is established in all bathrooms to guarantee they automatically turn off after 15 minutes when inactive.
