Following the final episode of ‘Smother’ airing on RTE 1 earlier this month, co-owners of the four-star Lahinch Coast Hotel John and Bríd O’Meara reflected on their enjoyment of having the production team and cast based at the hotel throughout filming.
The O’Meara’s shared, “It was a joy and privilege to feel part of this incredible Irish drama, not only showcasing the best of Irish acting talent but also showcasing beautiful Co. Clare and Lahinch in such an artistic way. The hotel was used for several scenes and of course some of our employees were excited to be included as extras! Filming began just weeks ahead of Covid in 2020 and despite the daunting setbacks and challenges facing the filming industry, the crew returned when it was safe to do so and navigated through changing restrictions.
“The cast and crew were extremely committed to the production, they even picked up a few IFTA awards along the way! The filming of Smother in Lahinch brought a huge boost to the local economy and local business. It also aired in a number of countries and it’s been a wonderful way of showcasing Clare on the Wild Atlantic Way with stunning shots from Co. Clare’s coastline and Burren Region.
“We thoroughly enjoyed having the wonderful and talented Treasure Entertainment, Smother cast and crew stay with us while filming Season 1, 2 & 3 over the last 3 years”
