Susan O'Mahony, a full-time teacher who dedicates much of her free time to volunteering with her local community centre has been recognised for her commitment to helping others.

The Secretary of Ringaskiddy Community Centre is the most recent recipient of the monthly Cork International Hotel Community Spirit Awards. Her dedication to the local and surrounding area, to the Shamrocks GAA underage members and the running of the community centre were acknowledged.

Her commitment and selfless nature sees Susan give her free time to advertising the Ringaskiddy Community Centre, taking bookings, meeting groups, and ensuring the facility is ready for users.

The most notable service was her involvement and planning of the successful Ringaskiddy Christmas Market 2023, their first Christmas market in the renovated Ringaskiddy Community Centre. The community event created a magical buzz around the village with many stallholders, music by Passage West Children's Choir and a delightful visit from Santa Claus.

The Community Spirit Awards recognise people who selflessly give their time and dedication to the benefit of others.

General Manager of the Cork International Hotel, Eoghan Murphy said; “Susan is a true reflection of the spirit of the award. She has her own career yet is happy to dedicate her personal time to running the community centre - she is involved on all levels at the centre. She also finds space in her diary to train the underage section of the Shamrocks GAA club. Her commitment and involvement in her locality is commendable. I’d like to congratulate Susan on her award and wish her and the community the very best of luck with the future.”

The judging panel for the Community Spirit Awards are made up of a mixture of representatives from the public and private sector within the community.

Nominations are open for next month's awards here.
