The Montenotte, is delighted to announce that contemporary Irish painter, Ken Browne, is lined up as its next Artist in Residence. Now in its seventh year, The Montenotte's Artist in Residence program, in collaboration with The Gallery Kinsale, continues to champion the arts.
The hotel seamlessly blends contemporary ideals with its rich heritage, showcasing eclectic art with pieces adorning the walls of the communal spaces. The Montenotte’s commitment to the arts is evident in the longstanding program, spotlighting artists with a six-month lobby exhibition. This initiative not only supports local talent but also embodies The Montenotte's vibrant design ethos.
Ken Browne, originally a Dublin-based artist now residing in Kells, Co Meath, brings a creative edge and innovative approach to the landscape genre. Focused on Irish landscapes, his work aligns perfectly with the panoramic views across Cork from Panorama, Montenotte’s award-winning New York cool, Parisian Chic dining concept.
Ken Browne's residency promises an exploration of art challenging traditional boundaries, inviting guests to run wild and explore their connection to the natural world. Reminiscent of Joseph Turner's grandeur, these Irish skies captivate viewers with their ever-changing moods, from misty greys to warm, burnished hues. However, it is in the lower areas of the paintings that the true emotional and psychological depth unfolds.
Ken Browne comments: “The majority of the new collection was done during the lockdown. In my mind, they are very much Irish landscapes captured through memories of places I have visited or have passed through. They enter my mind and later in the studio, they reappear. The mountains may be from Kerry and the skies from Kells. I don’t use photos or images to paint. I always work from memory. They are not only abstract landscapes but "inscapes", bringing the outside and inside world together, merging places with emotions and letting the viewer follow me on my emotional journey while experiencing their own. That is what my art is about. They are my “Inscapes” and are never of specific places.”
Frits Potgieter, General Manager of The Montenotte Hotel, says; “As an urban resort passionate about design and the arts, we take pride in our Artist in Residence program, supporting local talent and showcasing Ireland’s best. Ken Browne’s work captures the essence of Irish landscapes, enriching the cultural experience at The Montenotte. We have no doubt that our guests will enjoy this exhibition!”
The Montenotte is the perfect destination for art-lovers and culture-seekers, inviting guests to visit the multi-award-winning, design-led destination hotel on their next trip to Cork.
